Stellenbosch, is the oldest and most established wine route in South Africa, dating back to 1971. It is know throughout the world as a region that continuously produces wine of the highest quality. The vibrant student atmosphere and Cape Dutch architecture contributes to its unique charm. It has also won more wine awards per capita/wine than any other region in the country. Stellenbosch is the home of Kanonkop, Meerlust,Tokara, Rustenberg, Thelema and Warwick to name but a few.

Constantia, is the historic hub and where wine farming started in South Africa. It is the closest wine route to Cape Town and with its cool climate, due to it been situated between False Bay and the icy Atlantic Ocean is perfect for producing amazing white wines, especially Sauvignon Blanc. Constantia is home to famous estates such as Groot and Klein Constantia, Steenberg and Buitenverwachting.

Durbanville, might not be that well known or have many wineries but with its closeness to the cool Atlantic Ocean and it fertile Hutton and Clovelly soils it produces wines of the highest order. The Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz's from this area are very popular. Durbanville is home to De Grendel, Diemersdal, Ntida, Meerendal amongst others.

Franschhoek, lies in a beautiful contained valley, this picturesque little town was founded by the French Huguenots in 1688. The town has become a popular tourist destination with boutique guest houses and many of the Cape's best restaurants, not forgetting the great wines. Local wine cellars include La Motte, Cape Chamonix, Cabrière, and Boekenhoutskloof.

Paarl Mountains and the impressive Drakenstein range. Its cold wet winters and hot dry summers help create full ripe grapes and disease free vineyards. Paarl is best known for producing superb Shiraz but some fine, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc's are also been bottled. The local wineries include the ever popular Nederberg and KWV as well as Glen Carlou, Laborie and Villiera.

Robertson Wine Valley, is home to some first class wines and is without a doubt one of the most scenic wine routes in the country. The valley is blessed with perfect climatic and soil conditions that are ideal for wine making. Graham Beck are producing superb Methode Cap Classique, Zandvliet and Kranskop are bottling some wonderful Shiraz.

Swartland, the wine route stretches from Piketberg in the north down to Malmesbury in the south and also includes Riebeek-Kasteel and Riebeek-Wes. The Swartland Wine Route is one of the lesser know wine destinations but are home to some top rate wine estates that produce high quality wines. Cellars in the area that are well worth a visit includes Pulpit Rock, Kloovenburg and the award winning Sadie Family Wines.
